SEASON 3 MUSIC VIDEO INTERSTITIALS
Q&A WITH CREATOR JAMES BRUFFEE
1. What is your background in sketch/comedy/film?
I have mostly worked independently on short comedic/just-kinda-weird videos. I’ve also created a bunch of music for film, and some music videos. 2. Tell us about some of the challenges of making your film. I had never worked with a green screen before, so there was a learning curve when I was editing. I was really pleased with how much creative space it gives you, though, to move your actors around and put weird stuff in the background. 3. What would you do differently if you were to make this film again? I would have been more specific when I sent my production assistant, Greg Yakubov, out to get beer for the cast and crew. Greg is an incredibly capable and helpful assistant, not to mention an extremely talented photographer and an all-around-good-dude. But he is apparently not much of a beer drinker. He came back with a 12-pack of Bud Light Lime. Those sat in my fridge for weeks. 4. What's next for you? What's your next film project going to look like? I would like to work on some more straight-forward narrative sketch comedy videos. 5. Tell us about the Magnet Video lab and its role in making this film happen. The MVL was crucial to these videos, both because there would have been no need for them without MVL, and because I got incredible help from MVL members with camera work (Dennis Feitosa), assistant directing (Abby Russell), production assistance (Greg Yakubov), and costuming (Annie Quick). The whole MVL team came through with lots of great ideas and support as well. 6. Where did the inspiration for this video come from? I woke up one morning with the tune for the Robot Theme Song in my head. After I recorded that, the Monk one came to me. Then I just started riffing on different genres. 7. How did the MVL help you grow as an artist from Season 2 to Season 3? I used to be 4’11. I now stand at a proud 5’8 and a half. I could also talk about the growth of my genetalia, but I feel like this isn’t the appropriate forum. |
